Antonio McDyess before his knee injury

With word of Blake Griffin's left patella fracture, a history buff is reminded that Antonio McDyess, who BG is often compared to(Clips also picked #2 overall, but immediately traded to Denver right away), also suffered a patella fracture during preseason in his first season with the New York Knicks in '02.

McDyess, the All-Star power forward the Knicks were expecting to lead them back into playoff contention, fractured his left kneecap during the final minutes of Saturday's 94-87 exhibition loss to the Phoenix Suns at Madison Square Garden. After a magnetic resonance imaging test revealed the fracture yesterday, doctors said McDyess would be out indefinitely.

Let's hope it isn't as severe, 6 weeks is the prognosis, but these high risers may never be the same again. Good thing Blake is still young and maybe medical rehabilitation has improved even more since then.
