Golden State coach Don Nelson praised Jennings' performance. "Holy smokes," Nelson said. "I think that's probably the best rookie performance I've ever witnessed in 30-some years of coaching. We tried to handle him every way possible really. He had quite a game."
According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Jennings now has the mark for fewest games (seven) into an NBA career with a 50-point game.
Jennings has joined Cleveland's LeBron James as the only two players in league history to score at least 50 points before turning 21 years old. James did it twice at age 20, scoring 56 in March 2005 and 52 in December 2005.
After Jennings' big night against Golden State on Saturday, he ranks eighth in the league in scoring at 25.6 points per game and is fourth in three-point field goal percentage, hitting 17 of 30 attempts for a mark of 56.7%.
